Pyramid Atlantic


Pyramid Atlantic is a non-profit art center in Silver Spring, MD. The studio focuses on papermaking, printmaking and the book arts producing and selling artist editions. Additionally Pyramid Atlantic offers ongoing outreach services, workshops, educational programs and artist residencies, hosts exhibitions and offers studio space rentals – all supported through its volunteers and various levels of membership.

The Excelsior Press Museum Printing Shop

Located in a barn just outside of historic Frenchtown, NJ The Excelsior Press Museum Printing Shop is the real deal. Founded in 1962 by a 12 year-old boy, the press today is “preserved for demonstration, teaching, and of course, real old time printing” by that same 12 year-old. The shop also restores old letterpress equipment to pass on to others pursuing the art.

Slugfest Printmaking Workshop


Slugfest Printmaking Workshop out of Austin, TX is a collaborative workshop producing museum quality limited editions of original prints by both established and emerging artists. The workshop is also open to artists who wish to create or edition prints independently or with the assistance of Slugfest’s printers. Introductory workshops are offered in lithography, relief printing, monotype, collograph, book arts and letterpress.

The Artists’ Press is located on a farm 12 km from the town of White River in Mpumalanga, South Africa. For over 15 years this shop has had a mission to share South African printmaking with the world. Their focus is on hand printed lithography, monoprints, letterpress and photogravure work. They produce artist editions, exhibit work internationally and offer exchange programs.

Purgatory Pie Press

Purgatory Pie Press is a husband and wife team operating out of New York City. They focus on bookmaking using traditional handset letterpress techniques, often collaborating with fine artists. Additionally, they provide letterpress services for the production of wedding invitations, they offer courses in letterpress and bookmaking, and their work has been exhibited at galleries and museums internationally including London’s Victoria and Albert Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The image pictured is a book by Bob and Roberta Smith lettepress from lino cut and hand set type by PPP featured in Purgatory Pie Press’ How to Make Books, a recently published title dedicated to the creation of the handmade/DIY book.

Egg Press in Portland, OR is a small print studio that produces their own lines of letterpress, screenprinted and offset printed products sold online and in shops internationally, but also offers their exceptional letterpress skills for custom print projects.

Dolphin Press & Print

Dolphin Press

Dolphin Press & Print is part of the printmaking department at MICA in Baltimore, MD. The shop is integrated into the school’s curriculum, and students work directly with outside artists, printers and writers to produce limited edition prints and books with a wide range of techniques.


AS220 is a non-profit community art space in Providence, RI. It seems to function like public access television. If you’re from the state, the galleries are open for you to exhibit your work. The printshop, equipped for letterpress, screenprinting, blockprinting and intaglio holds workshops, classes and events. Plus, it’s available for open use!
